The Global Automations in Aggregator’s Settings allow you to apply automated filtering rules for all sources on your site to focus on curating the most valuable and relevant content for your visitors.
This option helps you streamline your workflow by setting up rules that automatically import, filter, or feature content based on specific criteria, such as keywords or phrases within the title or content.
With Global Automations, you can:
- Import content that contains specific words or phrases, or has certain tags applied.
- Filter out content containing specific words or phrases, or has certain tags applied.
- Automatically filter and feature trending topics based on specific names, words, and tags.

Accessing Global Automations
To find the “Global Automations” settings:
- Go to
Aggregatorin the WordPress dashboard. - Click on
Settings. - Select
Global Automationsfrom the menu to the left
Adding Global Automations
To add your first Global Automation, click on the Add new automation button.

This is where you’ll see a rule builder appear. All automation rules are based on “If-Then” statements.

Here’s a look at how the statement is broken down:
- If
- Title: Apply the conditions only if the title contains these words or phrases.
- Content: Apply the conditions only if the content contains these words or phrases.
- Title & Content: Apply the conditions only if both the title and content contain these words or phrases.
- Tags & Categories: Apply the conditions only if the tags and categories in the original RSS feed source contain these words or phrases.*
- Options
- Is: The title and/or content must exactly match the specified words and/or phrases.
- Is not: The title and/or content must not match the specified words and/or phrases.
- Contains all: The title and/or content must contain all the specified words and/or phrases.
- Does not contain all: The title and/or content must not contain all the specified words and/or phrases.
- Contains any: The title and/or content, or the tags and categories, must contain any of the specified words and/or phrases.
- Does not contain any: The title and/or content, or the tags and categories, must not contain any of the specified words and/or phrases.
Once you’ve set the above, enter the keyword/s and or phrase/s in the next text box.
- Then (The Action)
- Import item: Import the item if the set conditions are met.
- Do not import: Do not import the item if the set conditions are not met.
Note: For “Tags & Categories”, there are only two conditional statements available, which are “Contains any” or “Does not contain any”.
Complex Conditions
You can add multiple conditions to a single Global Automation rule using AND and OR operators to create complex filtering rules.
- Click AND to add a condition that must also be met.
- Click OR to add an alternative condition.
By configuring these settings, you can create sophisticated automated workflows to manage the content imported through the Aggregator plugin, ensuring that only the most relevant and valuable content is displayed on your site.
Saving and Managing Automations
Once you have set up your conditions and actions, click Save to apply the automation rule. This will instantly start applying the automation rule to every new fetch for every source that Aggregator runs from then on.
Keep in mind that these rules do not work retroactively, so if you already have imported items, the rules won’t apply to them unless they are deleted and re-imported from their source. Doing so may result in the loss of certain items if they are no longer available in the original source’s feed.
You can pause, delete, or add new Global Automations as needed to refine your content filtering strategy. Pausing will temporarily stop applying the rule to new fetches until you manually start it again. Similarly to the above, pausing an automation will not apply retroactively to already imported items no longer available in a source’s feed.
