This guide provides options for translating content with compatible plugins and highlights the available methods for both automatic and manual translation of imported content.
Contents

Aggregator allows you to bring in content from various sources to display on your WordPress site. If your audience is multilingual, you may want to translate this imported content to improve accessibility and reach. This guide will walk you through options for translating imported content using popular translation tools and plugins in WordPress.

Note: Ensure the imported items’ post type (for example, Post or any Custom Post Type) is set up to be compatible with the translation plugin.

Using a Translation Plugin

Several translation plugins are compatible with Aggregator and can help translate imported content. The most popular options include Weglot, TranslatePress, WPML, and Polylang. These plugins enable you to translate posts, pages, and imported items in multiple languages.

How to Translate Content with a Plugin:

  1. Install and activate a translation plugin of your choice. Each plugin may have specific setup requirements, so please follow the documentation provided by the plugin.
  2. Set up your desired languages in the translation plugin’s settings.
  3. Translate imported using each plugin’s available methods.

Automatic Translation

Many translation plugins also offer machine translation integrations (such as Google Translate or DeepL) or offer their own automated translations to help speed up the translation process. This feature is particularly useful if you are importing large amounts of content and need quick translations to go alongside the original version of the content.

How to Use Machine Translation:

  1. In the settings of your translation plugin, look for machine translation or automatic translation options.
  2. Activate the automated translation method by connecting your plugin to the relevant translation service (additional costs may apply depending on the service).
  3. For each imported item, the translation service will generate a translation in your selected languages. You can then review and edit these translations for accuracy.

Manual Translation for Precision

For content that requires a high level of accuracy or brand-specific language, manual translation may be preferable. This approach gives you complete control over each translated item and is ideal if you want to customize how content is presented in each language.

Steps for Manual Translation:
  1. Access Imported Items: Go to the WP RSS Aggregator Hub or Posts section, where you can see the items imported from your sources.
  2. Add Translations:
    • If using WPML or Polylang, click on the language options next to each item to open a manual translation editor.
    • Enter your translations for titles, content, and metadata as needed.
  3. Save Translations: After completing the translation, save the changes. The translated version will display according to the visitor’s language preference.

Troubleshooting Translation Issues

If you encounter issues with translations not applying to imported content:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that your translation plugin supports the post type you are using for imported items.
  2. Verify Language Settings: Double-check that your desired languages are enabled in the translation plugin’s settings.
  3. Clear Cache: If changes don’t appear immediately, clear any caching plugins or browser cache to ensure the latest version is displayed.

Summary

Translating imported content in Aggregator is straightforward with the help of translation plugins. Whether you choose to automate translations, use machine translation, or manually translate content, you can make your site more accessible and tailored to a global audience.

By following this guide, you can create a multilingual experience that extends the reach and impact of your imported content.
