The Advanced settings section in the Aggregator plugin provides additional configuration options for users who need more control over the plugin’s behavior. This section includes settings for SSL certificates, user agents, caching, and more.
We recommend only changing these settings if you know what you’re doing or if you’ve been instructed to change something by our support team.
To access your advanced settings:
- Go to Aggregator in the WordPress dashboard.
- Click on Settings.
- Select Advanced from the settings menu.
Configuring the Advanced Settings
Once you get to the Advanced Settings page, there are a few options you can edit:

SSL Certificate Path
This is a path to the file containing one or more SSL certificates. These will be used to certify certificates over a secure connection, such as when fetching a remote resource over HTTPS. The default is the path to the certificate file bundled with WordPress.
This setting will almost never need to be changed. It should only be modified if requested to do so by a Aggregator support specialist for technical reasons or as part of debugging steps.
Feed Request User Agent
This option lets you change the User Agent string that is used by Aggregator.
If you see an error similar to “Failed to fetch feed “http://www.example.com/rss”. The resource could not be retrieved…” in an error log, it’s likely that the RSS feed web server rejected Aggregator’s request to fetch the feed.
Sometimes, a web server may be set up to not accept requests from software that is not a web browser. This is often an oversight from the web server’s end since RSS feeds are not intended to be read by a web-browser, but rather by an RSS reader. Web servers can identify what kind of software is requesting the RSS Feed through a piece of text that is called a User Agent string.
We’ve seen this happen in the past and they have typically been resolved by the offending web server. However, to avoid this issue altogether, Aggregator uses a browser-like User Agent by default. This will play nicely with 99% of web servers on the web, so you should have no reason to change it.
IMPORTANT: We do not encourage changing the User Agent setting to try and bypass any security mechanisms that a server may have in place. A server reserves the right to block you or Aggregator, and we should respect that. Changing the User Agent to circumvent such measures may lead to legal action being taken against you. Aggregator will not be held liable for misuse of the User Agent setting.
Enable Feed Cache
Enable caching for feeds to improve Aggregator’s performance. Check this box to enable feed caching.
Disable Styles
Disable all the styles used in the plugin, including the default styles for Displays. You can then choose to create and assign your own custom styling however you wish.
Once you’re happy with the above settings, click on the “Save” button to apply any changes you’ve made.
Import/Export Settings
Scroll down to find the “Import/Export Settings” options. This is where you can import and export Aggregator’s settings between sites.

Import Settings
Upload an exported settings file to import your settings. Click on “Choose file” to select the settings file, then click on “Import settings” to import the configuration.
Export Settings
Download a file that contains all of your settings for Aggregator. Click on “Export settings” to download the settings file.
Delete All Imported Items
Lastly, you have the option to delete all existing items on your site.

This action is irreversible and should be used with caution. Click on “Delete all imported posts” to remove all imported content. It’s important to understand that imported items may no longer be available in their respective sources. You may never be able to re-import them again. Use this option at your own risk.
