Learn how to configure essential aspects of your source using the General settings under the Advanced tab.
Contents

The General settings under the Advanced tab allow you to configure a few fundamental aspects of your source.

General

Post Format

Set the post format for imported items. Post Formats are a piece of meta information that can be used by your theme to customize its presentation of a post.

Block Duplicate Titles

This setting helps you prevent duplicate items with the same title from being imported into your site.

Keeping this option disabled may be necessary if your source site has multiple items with the same title. For example, for real estate listings, job listings, etc.

Options:

  • Yes: Select this option to block duplicate titles. This ensures that no two items with the same title are imported
  • No: Select this option if you do not want to block duplicate titles. This means items with the same title can be imported.

This option allows you to link the imported items to the URL in their RSS feed’s enclosure tag.

Such an option is useful when an item links to something like an audio or video file for a podcast.

Activate Feed

This setting determines when the feed should be activated and start importing content.

An example of when this comes in handy is when you’re setting up a new website and don’t want the content to start being imported as you set up the sources. You can set every source to activate at the same time on the same day, giving you a clean starting point for your website.

Options:

  • Immediately: The feed will be activated and start importing content as soon as you save the source.
  • Calendar: You can select a specific date and time for the feed to be activated from the provided calendar.

Pause Feed

This setting allows you to schedule when to pause the feed, stopping it from importing content.

It can be useful when importing content from time-sensitive sources. For example, if you’re importing content from a source related to an election, you can schedule it to stop importing content related to that election one week after it ends.

Options:

  • Never: The feed will never be paused and will continue to import content until manually paused or deleted.
  • Calendar: You can select a specific date and time for the feed to be paused in the future.

These settings provide you with essential controls over how your feed source behaves, helping you manage the imported content effectively.
