Adding a Source

Adding a source is an essential step to start importing content to your website using Aggregator. Follow these steps to add a source:

Navigate to the Sources Section

Create a new source

Access the Aggregator Plugin

  • In the left-hand menu, find and click on Aggregator.
  • Under the Aggregator section, click on Sources.
  • On the Sources page, click the Add a new source button.

Enter the Source Details

A new screen will appear where you can enter the details of your source. The sidebar will have fields for you to fill in, and a preview of the available feed items will appear on the right side of the screen.

  • In the Source Link field, enter the URL of the feed you want to import.
  • You can also enter the URL of a website, and Aggregator will try to find the available feeds.

Additional Settings

  • Limit the Amount of Stored Items:
    • Specify the maximum number of items to store from this source. Enter the desired number in the field next to Limit the amount of stored items to. The default is set to 15 items.
    • When this limit is reached, the oldest items will be removed to make space for new ones.
  • Curate Posts:
    • If you want to manually curate the posts before they are published, check the Curate posts option.
    • Curation means you can review, edit, and approve items before they go live on your site.
  • Post Type:
    • Select the type of post you want the imported content to be saved as. By default, it is set to Feed Items.
    • For premium users, importing as Posts is a popular option. For more details, see our Feed to Post documentation.
  • Folders:
    • You can assign the imported items to specific folders by entering the folder name in the Folders field.
  • Update Strategy:
    • Configure the update strategy by clicking on the Update strategy dropdown. Here you can set how often the source should be checked for new content.
    • You can also set the option to update existing items if the content of the source changes.

Preview and Save

  • Preview:
    • A preview of the available RSS feed items will be displayed on the right side of the screen. Review this preview to ensure the correct feed is being imported.
  • Save the Source:
    • Once you are satisfied with the settings and the preview, click the Save button at the top right corner to save the source.
    • After saving, you can manually trigger an import by clicking the Import button.

Advanced Settings

The advanced settings provide precise control over the content that is imported and displayed on your site. Leveraging these settings ensures that the content is highly relevant, well-formatted, and tailored to meet the specific needs of your website and audience. Here are the key features available under Advanced tab:

  • General: Adjust general settings to tailor the overall behavior of the source.
  • Content: Manage settings related to the content of the imported feed.
  • Author: Specify settings related to the author information of the content.
  • Excerpt: Customize how excerpts from the feed are generated and displayed.
  • Images: Configure how images from the feed are handled, including size and placement.
  • Date: Set and adjust date-related settings for the imported content.
  • Audio: Manage settings for any audio content included in the feed.
  • Attribution: Set up attribution details to give proper credit to the original content sources.
  • Full Text Service: Use full text services to retrieve and display the complete content from the feed.
  • Custom Text: Add and configure custom text to enhance the imported content.
  • Custom Field Mapping: Map custom fields to ensure the imported content fits seamlessly into your site’s structure.
  • WordAi: Integrate with WordAi for advanced content spinning and rewriting.
  • SpinnerChief: Use SpinnerChief for additional content spinning options.

By following these steps, you can add a source, set up automated filtering, and configure advanced settings in your Aggregator plugin. This will enable you to automatically import and curate fresh and relevant content for your site, ensuring a consistent and engaging experience for your audience.
