The Custom Mapping settings are found under the Advanced tab when creating or editing a source. They allow you to map specific data from your RSS feed to custom fields or metadata on your WordPress site.

Custom Mapping

From feed item

Map data directly from an RSS feed item to a custom field or metadata in WordPress. This is useful when the feed includes additional information, such as episode summaries, durations, or custom tags that you want to store and use within your site.

  • Meta key name: Enter the name of the custom field or meta key where the data should be stored.
  • RSS tag/selector: Specify the RSS tag or selector from the feed item that contains the data to be mapped.

Here’s a sample RSS feed item:

To extract this value and store it in a custom field called summary, you would configure the mapping as follows:

  • Meta key name: summary
  • RSS tag/selector: itunes:summary

With this setup, Aggregator will extract the value inside the <itunes:summary> tag for each feed item and save it to a custom field named summary on the imported post.

In the screenshot below, the custom mapping rule is configured on the left panel. As a result, the extracted summary appears in the post preview area on the right side under the summary field:

Fixed data

Map a fixed value to a custom field or metadata.

  • Meta key name: Enter the name of the custom field or meta key where the fixed data should be stored.
  • Value: Enter the fixed value that should be mapped to the specified custom field or meta key.

From WordPress filter

Use a WordPress filter to map data to a custom field or metadata.

  • Meta key name: Enter the name of the custom field or meta key where the filtered data should be stored.
  • WordPress filter name: Specify the name of the WordPress filter to be used for mapping the data.

These settings provide flexibility in mapping data from your feed items to custom fields or metadata in WordPress, ensuring that you can store and use the imported data effectively.
